Imagine thriving trade routes, from Mumbai to the mainland. Prosperous traders used to ply these routes. Donations and gifts from these wealthy merchants, merchant guilds and the royal family resulted in the excavation of rock-cut caves along these routes which served as places of worship and dwellings for travelling Buddhist monks. This made the two sites, Karla and Bhaja centres of great Buddhist activity.
2000 years ago, the artists, architects, and stone masons possessed extraordinary skill in carving stone masterpieces. Their remarkable talent has survived to this day in the form of magnificent rock-cut architecture. Join us as we take a step back in time, with The Yatra Project on this exclusive tour of the Karle Bhaje Caves trip with expert Anand Kanitkar.
